چکیده

The fluorescence spectra of the material obtained when estrone, estradiol-178, and estriol are heated with sulfuric acid have already been described (l-3), together with their relative fluorescence intensities in response to esciting light of different wave lengths (2). However, in order to design the most favorable optical conditions for the fluorometry of these estrogens in urinary extracts after chromatographic separation, and since separation from interfering material is unlikely always to be complete, it is clearly important to take into account the fluorescence characteristics of the interfering material running adjacent to each estrogen in the chromatographic system used. Fluorescence characteristics of this interfering material in the case of column partition chromatography of the three estrogens in phenolic urinary extracts (4) are here described.

The determination of estrone, estradiol-17 beta, and estriol in urine and plasma with column partition chromatography.

Difficulties encountered in the chemical estimation of estrogens in urine and in plasma are caused principally by the low concentrations of estrogen frequently found in these fluids, by the presence of large amounts of interfering material, and by the lack of specificity of available methods for the quantitative estimation of the estrogens. In these circumstances, it is apparent that, unless ad...

A QUANTITATIVE STUDY OF THE ADSORPTION OF ESTRONE, ESTRIOL, AND cr-ESTRADIOL ON A CHROMATOGRAPHIC

In the course of a study of various procedures for the concentration and purification of urinary estrogens, the feasibility of the chromatographic technique seemed to warrant investigation. Chromatography has been employed to advantage in isolation procedures (l-3) for certain estrogens but no attempt has been made to utilize it in any quantitative procedure for estrone, estriol, and cY-estradi...

The characterization of estrone sulfate from human plasma.

The literature regarding estrogens in human blood has recently been reviewed (I), and it was concluded that only a preliminary qualitative outline of the subject is discernible. No chemical method has yet succeeded in unequivocally characterizing the trace quantities of estrogens in blood. Preliminary consideration has so far been given to establishing the total amounts of some estrogens in pre...

The separation of natural estrogens by countercurrent distribution.

The development of fluorometric methods (l-4) for the quantitative estimation of estrogens in the small quantities present in human urine has opened the way for improvements in the procedures utilized for the extraction and separation of these compounds. Sequential radioimmunoassay of unconjugated and conjugated estrogen in male human plasma.

A sequential radioimmunoassay procedure for unconjugated and conjugated estrone, estradiol-17 beta and estriol in male human plasma was developed. The blank values in this assay for unconjugated estrone, estradiol-17 beta, estriol conjugated estrone, estradiol-17 beta and conjugated estriol were 0.36 +/- 1.14 pg, 3.90 +/- 2.75 pg, 2.25 +/- 2.08 pg, 0.92 +/- 1.51 pg, 5.02 +/- 2.86 pg and 3.12 +/...
